ICD
ICD= Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator.
Patients who are at risk of chamber fibrillation may need a pacer with a
defibrillator (ICD). Such a device, which in addition to function as a regular
pacemaker, can identify a situation in which the patient needs an electric
shock in order to return to a standard cardiac activity. In a fibrillation
situation (when the chambers shrink over a certain rhythm) the device can apply
an electric shock. The device is mainly being used in a situation of a sudden
cardiac arrest. The advantages of these devices compared to external
defibrillators is that they enable the patient freedom of movement
